The Jazz Course

Monday, July 17th - Friday, July 21st, 2017
This course is for music teachers, jazz musicians, dancers and anyone interested in passing on the great heritage of jazz music.
A developmental sequence from preschool through middle school.
Games, songs, speech pieces, movement activities, body percussion and other child friendly doorways into Jazz
Roots music, jazz blues, jazz standards and jazz composition arranged for the Orff instrumental ensemble
Essential jazz theory and key historical, cultural and aesthetic background.

This workshop will focus on skills and techniques for better teaching to Outcome 6 of the Nova Scotia P-6 streamlined curriculum for music:
"Students will explore and reflect on a range of music from diverse cultures and communities, including Acadians, African Nova Scotians, Gaels, and Mi’kmaq, with respect and sensitivity. "

learn from music teachers who incorporate Orff into their program.
Students must have some comfort with:
recorder (b, a, g, e, d),
basic movement concepts and singing
