Soup, Soup!
Adapted from: "Now's the Time: Teaching Jazz to All Ages" by Doug Goodkin, p. 31-33
Teach the bass drum pattern, pat/clap accompaniment with clapping on 2 and 4.
Encourage students to improvise lyrics such as:
"Way down yonder (soup, soup)
In Halifax (soup, soup)
Cooked some stories (soup, soup)
Left our the facts (soup, soup)
Put strange stuff (soup, soup)
In a pot (soup, soup)
Made it soup (soup, soup)
Believe it or not (soup, soup)
OR
"Way down yonder (soup, soup)
At Long & McQuade (soup, soup)
We improvised (soup, soup)
And we made the grade (soup, soup)
I like four (soup, soup)
Can't do two (soup, soup)
But that's just me (soup, soup)
And I ain't you (soup, soup)...I made."
